Posted June 4th, 2010 by admin

Not sure what kind of cat breed is right for you? Start with the basics when making your decision. Ask yourself what about size. Cat breeds vary in across the different breeds. You also need to consider coat length.Cat breeds come from short hair to long hair varieties which will change the amounts of grooming you will need to maintain a healthy cat. Another thing to consider is the activity level. Some breeds are content to lounge all day while other breed want to be played with a lot.Certain breeds also do better with alone time and some will require a lot of attention and affection. Each cat will still have it’s own personality but choosing a breed suited to your needs will make for a happier match.

The American Shorthair is a domestic cat that originated in the United States . It’s size is usually medium to large and has short hair. This is a quiet breed with a medium to low activity level. They are usually affectionate with everyone and can handle up to eight hours of alone time. The American Shorthair is a low maintenance safe choice for most families.

Another breed to look at is the Burmese. The Burmese breed come from South East Asia . Little grooming is needed for this breed because of its short hair. The Burmese breed is a very talkative breed with a very high activity level. This breed is quite affectionate and requires both loving and playful attention. The Burmese cat is good with adults and children over six years of age and will likely keep you on your toe’s!

The RagaMuffin breed is a domestic long hair with a similar look to the Persian. It is a medium to large cat with long hair. Most long hair breeds will require weekly grooming. The RagaMuffin breed is a very quiet cat with a low activity level. It is a very affectionate type that accepts everyone easily. Combined with its somewhat lazy personality, The RagaMuffin might be the typical fat lap cat you are looking for. This would be good company for a retired person who still has the ability to take care of the grooming needs of a long haired cat.

It is important to remember that while researching cat characteristics can be a useful guide, all cats across all breeds are unique. You will come across that odd cat that acts nothing like the breed he comes from. It is always a good idea to spend time with your potential pet before committing to it. No animal deserves to be put out as a stray or returned to a shelter because of a personality conflict. Please take your time when choosing your purrrfect cat!
