In preparing for my busy season at work, I wanted to find someone who could walk my dog, Nahla, during the day. I came across A-1 Pet Care and they have been a blessing. One of my concerns in hiring someone was how my dog would react. She is a rescue and is afraid of everyone and everything that she does not know well. As it turns out, the person, Penny, assigned to my dog had experience with rescues. Before even meeting with Penny, she exchanged a few e-mails with me. The face-to-face meeting cemented my comfort with her. Penny has been absolutely wonderful to and for Nahla. Penny was extremely patient with Nahla and understood the need to take things slowly to build trust. Penny left me notes on a daily basis conveying Nahla's progress. When Nahla became comfortable with Penny, she continued to leave a note each day to let me know how things went.
A-1 Pet Care has a policy of arranging for a substitute should the primary person have a conflict. Michelle was Penny's backup. I traded a few e-mails with Michelle and met her in person when I met Penny. Michelle also had experience with rescues which left me comfortable that she too would understand how to handle Nahla if she was needed.
Not only has Penny been great for Nahla in terms of giving her a break during the day, Nahla's time with Penny has also taught her to trust other people besides myself. I have noticed a difference in Nahla's behavior around other people. It took a week for Nahla to be comfortable enough with Penny to be walked. Because of Penny's interactions with her, Nahla allowed Michelle to walk her the first time she filled in for Penny. This was huge!
Knowing that Penny was taking Nahla for a walk everyday while I work long hours gave me peace of mind. I highly recommend A-1 Pet Care.

I have two 80 lb female dogs with opposite personalities. They are a handful! Abigail is 7 years old. She has several congenital anomalies which include one functioning eye, one functioning kidney, and an enlarged heart. Grace is a hyperactive 4 year old who was a rescue that was deemed unadoptable. Luckily, we met just in time. For those reasons, the 'girls' have always traveled with me. However, I recently have a new little girl in my life, my niece, who lives two hours away. I made the decision not to take my dogs to her home because of the chaos and hair that follow them. I was new to Knightdale area and had no one that I could trust in my home and trust to care for them. I've never used a pet sitter and was skeptical, but thought it was worth a try. I interviewed two area pet sitters and was simply not comfortable. When I had almost given up hope, A-Pet Care from Sleep-Eas-ZZ (Knightdale NC) came into my life. When the owners arrived at my home, they were professional and organized. Jean, who services the Knightdale area, also arrived and I was immediately at ease. She was anxious to meet my girls. Although it was only their first meeting, she was firm enough to control their behavior, but showed such respect for them. It was obvious to me that Jean had a great understanding of dog behavior and an unconditional love for animals.
I will admit that I was very nervous the first time I traveled out of town for the weekend. Jean understood my motherly concern and called me each day to let me know that all was well. When I returned, Jean had straightened the doggie blankets, put my mail on the counter, and left me a note describing the weekend. It quickly became clear that Abigail felt very comfortable with Jean because she shared her special game with Jean. I did not expect Abby to want to play with Jean because she can be standoffish with strangers. Therefore, I didn't even tell Jean about it. Abby had initiated the game with Jean and Jean joined right in giving me all the details. This warmed my heart.
I can't tell you the number of times that Jean has gone above and beyond expectations. One weekend, the water bowls were freezing. Jean brought a different type of water bowl from her home to ensure that my girls had fresh water. Jean is a wealth of knowledge and offers suggestions from the type of toy that I can use with my hyperactive dog to how I can improve my doggie hut outside for minimal cost.
My dogs are far from perfect and have offered her challenges from time to time, but Jean is very knowledgeable and confident. I don't question her abilities.
Jean came into our lives almost one year ago. She pet sits for me once a month on average to allow me to visit my family. She loves my girls like I love my girls. She is a rare and wonderful person. Jean is such a blessing to my special family.

A1 Pet Care Recommendation I have been using A1 Pet Care for several years now. Xiomara, the pet sitter who takes care of my dogs, does a wonderful job. My animals love her. She often brings special doggie treats for them. My dogs are always happy when we get home so we know they were well cared for. Xiomara leaves daily updates for us and always has a funny story to share about something cute the dogs did while we were gone. Our neighbors even comment that the pet sitter spends extra time at our house when we are on our longer trips, keeping the dogs from getting lonely. She also brings in the mail so we don't have to cancel delivery on longer trips. We would not trust our babies to anyone other that A1 Pet Care!
