A Little About Me!

TOMBOY A LITTLE GRAY STRAY

When I was seven or eight years old, a long-haired gray cat walked into our garage and decided to become part of our family. We called him Tomboy. Tomboy was an independent cat and would come and go as he pleased. Sometimes he would disappear and then show up again just when we thought he had left for good.
Tom was a great yard cat. He followed us around the garden as we picked flowers or worked in the soil. He would roll in delight in the grass and suddenly leap into the air to chase low flying butterflies. He was full of cat-itude, but seemed grateful to have a nice, warm garage to snooze in on the cold days, and water and food available on his lazy days.
Tomboy and I became good friends over the years. As time went on, I noticed he was not as active as he once was and his walk was not as robust. He was jumping and playing less. His ears were tattered and torn from years of battling with other cats. His gray coat now had a hint of gray in several spots…Tom was no longer that small little gray kitten I once held in my hand. Tomboy had grown old.
One day he walked into to the garage…thinner than normal. He looked into my eyes as if to say thank you for your love and kindness. He blinked once and slowly walked out of the garage. To this day, I remember his leaving. That was the last day I ever saw him.

MISS KITTY

A few years later, a little white cat came into my life. I really do not remember how my family acquired her but she was there and she became my cat. I named her Miss Kitty. She was all white with beautiful blue eyes. When she came to us as a kitten, she seemed to have a slight breathing problem when she would play with strings.
One day we took her to the vet, and was informed she had a very bad heart condition and there was nothing we could do to fix it. Most people would have put her to sleep, but I said I would take care of her and asked if I could keep her.
Her prognosis was not good and they said she would not have a long life. I remember giving her a lot of special love and care. The years passed by. I became a teenager and Miss Kitty had become my best friend.
I would take her out on a leash into the green grass in the back yard. She loved the smell of fresh air and the green grass. Since she was very limited in her ability to engage in activity, she looked forward to this special time together. She was always at my side and slept in my bed. We were companions and shared a special feline/human bonding.
After completing school, I decided to go to Europe for about three months. I left Miss Kitty with my parents and knew that she would be well cared for. However, for Miss Kitty the separation was too much to bear. I believe my special needs feline died of a broken heart because I was no longer close.
Many years have now gone by and I am now in my senior years. To this day I have never been without the company of a feline in my life. I find them to be fascinating, mysterious, loving, kind, curious and sensitive to the human heart. Every cat has its own little personality traits. They can be outgoing, shy, playful, independent and yes even aggressive. They let us know where things stand and expect us to come up with a CUSTOMIZED CARE PLAN for their every little need. Cats rule the world!
